The Little Monk

01 - 02

EXT.OUTSIDE MONASTERY

The little monk comes into a clearing. Only a small orange tree can be seen possibly the last obstacle to freedom. All of a sudden a little bird lands on it. It's a most beautiful bird. With red and yellow feathers that almost seem to glow in the dark. The little bird gives greetings.

LITTLE BIRD
Hello there! And where do you think you're going?

LITTLE MONK
What's it your business?

LITTLE BIRD
You should be careful. It's not safe around here at night.

LITTLE MONK
I'll take my chances. Who the hell are you?

LITTLE BIRD
My name is Belle and I guard the gate to the valley.

LITTLE MONK
That's nice. How about letting me through?

BELLE
I can't do that. Not until I'm satisfied you know the secret password.

LITTLE MONK
You've got to be kidding.

Belle looks at the little monk with a look of playfulness and sterness. It feels rather familiar to Belle.

BELLE
Well, if you can't give me the secret password. How about helping me out.

LITTLE MONK
Helping you out with what?

BELLE
I need to find this lost butterfly. It's terribly important.
The fate of the universe could be at stake.

The little monk looks at Belle with a look of disbelief and inconvenience. But inside he realizes Belle might just be of help. After all he's never been out of the monastery.

LITTLE MONK
Oh, alright. But only if you help me get across to the next valley.

NARRATOR
Touche!

EXT. BOTTOM OF THE HILL.
The little monk sees a stick on the ground and starts to reach out for it when Belle warns him.

BELLE
No don't!

LITTLE MONK
what is it now?

BELLE
It could be dangerous.

LITTLE MONK
It's just a stick. This trip could take awhile and I just may need it.

The little monk picks up the stick and a blinding flash envelops him and Belle.

EXT. A GREEN AND LUSH JUNGLE.
The new vista is completely different from the little monk's known world of yellows and dull oranges. In this new world everything is in greens of all kinds of shades. Indeed, even the sky is green and the leafy vegitation makes for quite a contrast. The Little Monk and Belle are bewildered by this environment.

NARRATOR
Well, now! Looks like there in for it now. In these situations it's always a
good idea to start walking in a straight line. You might actually get back to
where you came from.

LITTLE MONK
You know Belle maybe we should start walking in a straight line.

BELLE
What for?

LITTLE MONK
I don't know. It's something the abbot always told me to do.

BELLE
Alright if it makes you feel better.

Belle and the little monk start walking and after what seems like a fairly long time
stop for a bit of rest.

LITTLE MONK
So what's with this butterfly? Why is it so important?
What happens if we don't find it?

Belle looks at the little monk with a steady and calculating gaze. Almost as if weighing in her mind whether to let out a secret before the right time.

BELLE
Well, I really can't say much about this butterfly other than we have to find
it soon and before some rather nasty people find it. Then things could really
get difficult.

LITTLE MONK
Sounds pretty mysterious.

BELLE
It really isn't. It's just that one shouldn't talk about such things before it's time.

The little monk gives a look of dis-interested disapproval and looks into the distance.

LITTLE MONK
How about lunch? I havn't had anything to eat since yesterday. That is whenever that was.

The little monk then sees something in the distance that looks like it may have some kind of shelter. The skies begin to grow overcast and the possibility of rain becomes suddenly real. Both the little monk and Belle move towards the shelter which begins to look like an airplane hanger. Next to it is a runway that looks ridiculously too small for any kind of aircraft to take-off from. Someone is working inside the hangar.
